An integrative prototype that features a feasible solution to the growing parking epidemic on Kennesaw State Universityβs campus.
Research
To kick off any design process, you must first do the research. We followed a rigid system on a shared FigJam file from a fellow IAD professor. We were instructed to find relevant articles to serve as a sort of βbasisβ for why our app would be useful. I picked an article non-KSU related, but it highlighted the importance and efficiency of having apps that can monitor parking situations in various areas of concern. A large chunk of the research phase was conducting user interviews. I interviewed my friend Emeka (also an IAD major) and two other KSU Alumni, Quinton and Leila. With their insights, I was able to contribute to this portion of the project development phase.
Modeling
This was more of where we collectively determined how we wanted the βfeelβ of our app to be. This involved discussing pathways. We each pitched in our ideas of what would make the app user-friendly. I suggested we implement different features such as schedule and route adjustments by a semester basis.
Requirements
This step was about finalizing how efficiently the user could interact with the app. It involved much narrowing down on what each student stood to gain from Owl Park, which, to me, was stress-free, easy accessibility, and time management skill building.
Framework
In the framework, we were each tasked with designing a low, and then high, fidelity prototype or sets of screens. I was tasked with designing the screens for preferences, help, and settings page. Starting these was sightly difficult, but with the help of my teammates, I was able to match the design aesthetic and functionality that we had come to an agreement on.
Refinement
The refinement phase was the final stage of our app. At this point, we had worked through multiple brainstorming sessions, several user interviews, research phases, and had finally come up with a high-fidelity prototype. With a few strings pulled, we were able to present our app to students and faculty in the Student Center. Most people who stopped by seemed to receive the app well, with some even signing an informal petition to have the app implemented as apart of KSUβs social hub.
